Listening To Music

The first device I can remember listening to music on was a cd player. I was a kindergartner in after school care and one of the adults in charge would always put in a mix cd with Nsync and The Backstreet Boys. He would dance and sing along with us to songs like Bye Bye Bye by Nsync and I Want It That Way by The Backstreet Boys. It was my favorite part about after school care and I hated when I stopped getting to go there after school.

The next device I remember listening to music on was my iPod shuffle. I had a hot pink one and I listened to a lot of Hannah Montana.

I did not have a strong attachment to this iPod, and once my younger brother got the Itouch I sold the shuffle to my neighbor and bought the Itouch online. Unfortunately the Itouch I bought had one big problem, my Itouch didn’t have a headphone jack. At the time it made no difference to me and I listened to music all the time on the Itouch. After I got my IPhone I gave my dad my Itouch. I loved my phone and still love my current version of it.

The device that I have used to listen to music has changed over time mostly because there are only so many hours in a day. If I’m going to get a new music listening device I have to get rid of an old one, the displacement theory.

I listen to music in the car, getting ready in the morning, and at the beach/ pool/ backyard.   Music listening is mobile now, so I can listen to it anywhere. I would say I listen to music at least 2-3 hours a day.

I listen to music because it puts me in a happier mood (Brand New by Ben Rector), calms my anxiety (The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra), motivates me (Surprise Yourself by Jack Garratt), entertains me (Just Dance by Lady Gaga), allows me to forget about what is going on in my life for a while (Only The Good Die Young by Billy Joel), and gives me a space to express whatever I am feeling (Losing My Religion by R.E.M.)

Music is, always has been, and will continue to be a big part of my life. The listening device varies but my love of music stays the same.
